Start at DOPL

Everything routes through the Division of Professional Licensing. Open the contractor section to see requirements and forms for your classification.

Take the prelicensure course — if required

Check page 10 of the application to see if your qualifier needs the prelicensure class, then register through AGC of Utah.

Registration path: Schedule a Test → Self Registration – Start Scheduling. Under Certifying Body choose UT-Contracting, then Business and Law in the second dropdown. Enter your email in the UtahID field, add your personal info, and pick a location and date. Online options are available.

Get the manual

We recommend the newest edition from AGC of Utah — The Utah Contractor Business and Law Manual, 2nd Edition — the most comprehensive resource for navigating Utah licensing.

Submit to DOPL

Once everything on the application is gathered and completed, turn it in to DOPL. See the last page of the application for accepted submission methods.

ALREADY LICENSED?

Add or replace a qualifer

Use the add/replace qualifier application to change a qualifier on your license — this is also the form to use when adding a new classification.

Sign the qualifier up for the prelicensure course if needed (page 10).

After the class, take the Business & Law exam if needed at ProvExam.

Submit the completed application to DOPL in person or by mail.
