Building What Matters: Our Most Meaningful Dinner Celebration Yet
At this year’s AGC of Utah Annual Convention, we set out to make our Build What Matters Dinner Celebration more than just a fun night with attendees — we wanted it to matter in the community we all serve.
Every year, our dinner brings together members for an evening of connection, entertainment, and unforgettable experiences. In past years, that’s meant games, shows, or lighthearted competitions. But this year? We flipped the script.
nstead of the typical dinner entertainment, we invited attendees to roll up their sleeves and join in a service-centered experience — building something tangible that would support Utahns in need. The goal was simple: give back to the community while having a great time doing it.
And oh boy… did we deliver.
3,000+ Meal Kits. 30+ Bikes. One Big Impact.
Together with our convention attendees:
-
We assembled over 3,000 meal kits designed specifically for middle and high school students who face food insecurity over the weekends — when school meals aren’t available.
-
Every table competed (in the spirit of good fun) to pack over 200 meal kits each — all with laughter, teamwork, and a sense of purpose.
-
And because we know mobility matters too, we provided more than 20 bicycles, also donated that night, to support local youth with transportation needs and opportunities.
Once completed, these kits and bikes were delivered to the Salt Lake Education Foundation and will be distributed throughout schools in the Salt Lake City School District — helping families right here in our backyard.
Food insecurity is one of those hidden challenges that many Utahns quietly face. Recent data shows that across the state, roughly 1 in 8 people — including 1 in 6 children — struggles to access consistent, nutritious meals. That translates to hundreds of thousands of neighbors unsure where their next meal will come from.
In Salt Lake County alone, food insecurity affects an estimated 13.6% of residents, underscoring the real, ongoing need for community support.
By pivoting our celebration toward service, we didn’t just talk about building what matters — we built it.
There was still music. There were smiles. And sure, some friendly competition. But most importantly, there was impact — measurable, meaningful, and immediate.
From the volunteers packing kits to the trucks rolling out to deliver them, the 2026 Build What Matters Dinner wasn’t just another event, it was a moment of community in action.
Thank you to every member who showed up, pitched in, and proved that when we build together, the foundation we create is stronger than any job site — it’s a community that cares.
